Is anyone on here affiliated with an LGBT activism group that is, well, active? It's hard to tell from just googling around, because so many act on a purely local scale.
I've spent the past two days coming home from work and looking at websites that are flat out lying... saying that Lesbians and Gay cannot be monogamous, that we are some kind of menace, that we have some big master plan to take over the world.
I'm hurt and frightened, and I want to do something. None of the local groups that I can see are making any difference... Is anyone here involved in a group that IS making a difference? If so, who are they, and how can I conact them? Anyone involved in such a group that is interested in talking to me, and telling me what exactly goes on would be helpful too - I would love to IM or e-mail.

If you want to make a difference, join the Human Rights Campain or the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Southern Poverty Law Center is a Liberal organization that dips pretty much into everything to protect civil rights. Human Rights Campaign concentrates on Gay rights.

First of all, the groups you'll see that make the biggest difference WILL be local groups. Bigger scale change takes time, and you're less likely to see it come to fruition in your lifetime. That said, I don't know your gender (or entirely how much it matters) but I'm fond of the Lesbian Avengers. As a male, I would feel priviliged to work with them some day; they're the only ones I've seen that still do a lot of direct-action, risk-arrest type stuff aside from Soulforce. (I have no idea how to get involved with them, but their website is soulforce.org). I don't know how big or common the lesbian avengers are, either, so I don't know how to contact them. They aren't really around in my area.

You look fantastic without it. in case you at the instant are not gentle wearing it, do not wearing it. The makeup police are not going to arrest you or something. Do what makes you sense maximum gentle with your self.
