at about 18 weeks is when most mom's feel the little flutters that feel like gas. that's about when I really noticed them. It isn't until about 22-24 weeks that you can't deny what you're feeling. Baby will be most active at 24-28 weeks.
The first flutters are very very low in the pelvic area and feel like a gas bubble moving. It'll be few and far between at that time. As time progresses, the movements will be more often and more distinctive and eventually higher in the belly.
Tell her I felt the same way and to relax. if she's that worried, she can call her caregiver and go in for them to get the heartbeat with the doppler.
Congrats and good luck!!

When you have your first baby you can expect to feel some movements around 18 - 20 weeks, and for subsequent pregnancies a little earlier. These movements are sometimes described as feeling like "butterflies or bubbles" in your tummy. As the pregnancy progresses the movements become more noticable and more frequently noticable. Sometime between 24 and 28 weeks your daughters Doctor or Midwife will give advise about these movements and ask her to report any significant changes. Change in movement patterns can be, but are not always significant. This used to be done from 28 weeks and women were sometimes asked to fill in a "kick" chart called a count to ten chart.

After 4 pregnancies I can tell her its normal not to feel much till 5 months. the baby is only tiny yet about 5ins. To reassure her hold a tape measure against her tummy to show how tiny that is and tell her that it is still surrounded by a lot of fluid too. The first movements can easily be mistaken for gas! I didn't know I was pregnant the first time till I went to the Doctors. If she is still anxious take her to the Doctor or mid-wife and ask if you can listen to the heartbeat! I'm sure they will be able to reassure her! Hope this helps in some way.
Good Luck and tell her to relax and enjoy her pregnancy.

I'm a prego now. Yes you are fine. People will try and scare you because they had it bad or are jealous. Some don't mean it. The first time i felt movment it felt like fluttering, . It dosn't hurt. you might even feel like you were on a roller coaster and went straight down for a second. or have a growling stomach. Most women can't feel until there 5th month any way. So relax it's nothing. One more thing
Don't you think your MOM might know a thing or two after all she had you. Mothers don't forget what happen, you might not remember the pain to clear, but you remember the battle. Also I would trust her before I trust some maniac trying to give me a heart attack. PEOPLE LOVE DRAMA!!!! the worse the better..
If you still don't believe her get a book called WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU'R E EXPECTING by Hedidi Murkoff. She has everything you wanna know and it's month by month. It has saved me from Maniacs and calling my mom and the doctor every other second.

Just let your daughter know that everyone is different and that everyone will not feel the baby move at the same time. For the reason is that everyone carries their baby different. And that it also depends on how much weight she is carrying around with her. But she will feel the baby in just a few more weeks. I was a first time mom just months ago so I know what she is feeling. I did not feel my baby move until the week 19. But once I felt him move it was amazing and I will never forget that moment. But just let her know that her baby will move and it will be the best day in her life! Congrats on the up and coming baby.

I felt movements at 14 weeks, but only when I laid on my stomach and I happened to feel the baby move. I didn't start to feel major movements standing or sitting until about 5 and a half months. As long as the baby has a good heartbeat, and her doctor isn't concerned, she's fine.

Here are some sites that show the fetal development and changes you can expect to your own body during pregnancy:
www.babycenter.com/fetaldevelopment
pregnancy.about.com/od/fetus/Fetal_Development.htm
www.epigee.org/fetal.html
At 4 months:
Your baby is now about 5 inches long and weighs 5 ounces. His skeleton is starting to harden from rubbery cartilage to bone.
According to www.epigee.org/fetal.html "Now that you are 14 weeks pregnant, you have officially started your second trimester. The risk of miscarriage is significantly decreased at this point. In addition to your baby's reproductive organs developing, your baby will also begin to grow some hair as well as form eyelids, fingernails and toenails. You may even be able to feel your baby moving inside of you this week."

Hi,
Ive had three babies and preganat with my fourth, with my fisrt pregnancy i was 19 weeks before i felt movement but when i figured out it was my daughter i had probably flet for a few weeks previous, its not the big kick like we expect but like a hickup inside or a little fluff.
with the last 2 it was much earlier because you know the feeling.
When your preganat every1 has something to tell you and it always makes you feel scared or anxious.
every1 is different and when you have your baby you'll do the same.
people loike to put the fear of god in us by saying things that they really shouldnt.
You should, eat, sleep, put on weight, feed or bottle feed, have as much drugs as you can get as long as you are comfortable.
goodluck.

Well.....@4months is kinda early to feel a real movement plus if this is your 1st baby! When i was pregnant with my first child, i didn't start feeling a real movement until about 6 months i mean a real kick.....Trust me in time you will feel your little one and when you do there is nothing like it! Once you start feeling regularly you will tell from gas or baby kicks . Dont worry let nature take its course.
