I'm a first time mom to be, barely in my 19th week. Just the other day, I noticed an increase in my dry skin. I was expecting this and had been using lotions and cocoa butter daily. However, in spite of all my efforts, the skin on my rear end is dry and no longer smooth to the touch. I've tried exfoliating as well, but thus far, no change. Does anyone have any suggestions other than my daily lotioning and exfoliating? Or is this something to be worried about???

Same thing happened to me, and the only thing that fixed it was having the baby. But there's nothing to worry about, it's just from the hormones.
Have you tried Eucerin cream? It's really good for dry skin, and might help.

Use vasiline every nite before going to bed. Start out by trying to avoid sleeping on your bottom for a while and, if you dont wear underwear to bed then all the better, your skin then can start absorbing the moisture that it needs.
Also try to start using baby oil after taking your daily bath or shower. When drying off leave your skin a little damp so that when you put the baby oil on, the dampness of your skin will help to seal in the moisture.

You may want to try to use baby oil after you bathe. It will lock in moisture better than lotion.
Also, you should also mention this to your doctor, so make sure it is only dry skin, and not psyriosis (sp?) or somethign else. More than likely, it is dry skin though.
Somethign else that will help is to use a humidifier in your house and bedroom. Humidifiers and vaporizers are the same thing, although most vaporizers produce warm air. So decide if you want warm air/mist or cool air mist. This is especially helpful during pregnancy and during the 'winter' months when your heater produces 'dry heat' and dries out the air around you.
Also, just a word of advice...all of those lotions that claim to reduce the chances of stretchmarks or to prevent stretchmarks...they're a hoax....the best way to prevent them is drink ALOT of water to stay hydrated, and to use a lotion/oil daily to help keep skin moist and stretchy.
Another thing that may apply to you, as far as dry skin goes...try not to take HOT baths or showers. The hot water dries out your skin (all over, not just your bottem). So take warm showers and warm baths...
Pregnancy does cause alot of dry skin in weird places...so just try to be calm about it...it will eventually go away. I am 33 weeks right now and my skin is WAY better than it was when I was 19 weeks!!!
Good luck and Congrats!

I have extrememly sensitive skin. I cant even use any kinds of lotions. How I help my dry skin on my stomach and legs or wherever my skin is dry. Before going to bed take a warm shower. Rub some Vaseline on the skin. Dont dry off at all and just smear the vaseline on dont rub it completely in like lotion. It helps a lot but you may have it all over your pjs but worth it. I have eczema and I have to do this everynight to my legs.
