i am a FATHER w/phyiscal custody of my daughter for past 3 years when i took custody i stated in court no child support but that mom should pay half of all school things, now my fincial situtaion has changed drasticlly over 3 year period so i have asked dhs.child support recovery of IOWA to modify my case and for the mom to pay child support (she has nevr paid half of any school things)oh yeah the courts never put in papers where and when mom was to do her share of half school things, so no proof of this that she has helped..now my daughter is being penalized for never having any support to help pay her needs, i have seen her ask grandma for money for hygiene things even.. I feel all this run around with the state of IOWA is because i'm a man and not a woman, plus i make less than the mother does and she has no other kids to support or any obligations...how can this father get any help with receiving child support..WHY AM I BEING REFUSED...I CANT EVEN GET A CONFIDENTAL INTERVIEW. WHY?

If what you posted is true--it definately sounds like a case of gender discrimination. Anytime there is a substantial change in circumstances--support should be reviewed. DO NOT HIRE AN ATTORNEY YET! It is the job of child support to get/enforce your support. And you shouldn't have to pay for a service that is mandated for everyone! If your circumstances are such that you're struggling, apply for services such as food stamps and medical assistance. That will COMPEL the state to act. Here is a link to IA child support: https://childsupport.dhs.state.ia.us/welcome.asp

You should definately call the 800# and state your case. Tell them you feel you've been discriminated against and you want to file a complaint--they should be able to direct you on how to do that. Any parent (male/female) has an obligation to support their child-regardless of gender.

Since the school supply issue was not entered in your order-you're probably out of luck for that--courts generally can not set support retroactively prior to the date of application.

Also, google father advocate groups in your state/county. They may be able to offer some suggestions as well! Good luck and kudos on being a custodial daddy!!!

If your divorce decree included a specified amount and she is not paying that amount, hire a lawyer to help you; you might get it or uyou might not. If the settlement did not include this payment of school expenses then you don't have much of a legal leg to stand on. You say that you stated that "she should pay half of school things..." Did the judge agree? Did the decree include that stipulation?

I agree...you must have an attorney or you are spinning your wheels. Try POPCO..do a search they are for fathers rights.
