Personally I have never heard that too much effort can be counterproductive. I believe that it was Albert Einstein, considered by most to be one of the most intelligent individuals who ever lived, who said, "Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration." I can only interpret that by perspiration he meant hard work, also known as effort. The first step towards success ... in anything ... is setting one's goal. I always tell students, "You can't get anywhere if you don't know where you're going." Once you set your goal, you must work to achieve it. Work, effort, trying hard - these are the keys to success, not failure. There is no such thing as "too much effort." Whoever told you that did not want you to succeed; don't listen to them again!

My daughter has the same problem in math. Math is very abstract - so it makes it quite difficult. There is also something called "Test Anxiety" and it can really play a toll on students. In math, one can usually check there answer by using inverse operations. There are also MANY free interactive websites online in which you can practice. You sound like a well spoken student, If you parents do not understand, I suggest you ask your teacher if there is a time you can meet with him/her and explain just as you have in this post. Your teacher may be able to pinpoint a reason or if not, surely would be able to offer suggestions or recommend your parents have you tested if she thinks it could be a bigger issue. Good luck.

No Trying hard is the key to success. If you want to succeed then you keep on trying. I am sure you have never fail. It is okay to have some fun but nothing replaces a good education.

Never does it imply to working to hard and never succeeding. Just keep on trying your best and you will indeed pass, I guarantee you that you will. The harder that you put more effort into school the easier way that you would have a brighter mind to focus.

You won't fail unless you break down or if even when you try too hard you still get the questions wrong.

definitely not!!!

its just that people say that working hard is spending all nights and days to work...
it is not important how long you spend time but how much you gain even in few minutes..
