I have a shuttle XPC (model SN41G2V2) and lately the computer has been reverting back to an old date every time it's turned on. I've done virus and ad-ware scans and it's all turned up clear. Anyone have any ideas on what's wrong with it? Thanks for your assistance.

I think the battery inside your motherboard has died (very unusual)
it is a nickel sized circular batter around the right mid-lower side of your motherboard.
if changing that does not work, it is a faulty motherboard.
That battery keeps all your clocks on all hte time.
but it is supposed to last for 7 years or more.
i have a 12 year old computer that still has it's battery running since we got it.

It is an internal problem with your board. There is a small watch battery that resides on your motherboard that keeps the CMOS in check when you power down your computer. You need to replace this battery, cause when you power off your computer, it will reset back to 1980 @ midnight (correct?).... the battery can be found at staples/office depot or best buy, and is extremely easy to replace.

The operating system is checking the time against two things:
1) the world clock as specified in clock properties
2) your cmos/bios clock.

if the settings are correct for (1), then your cmos battery could be dying. that's the cell battery on your motherboard. they're like $10 for a good brand one. (turn off your computer before replacing it)

The battery may be dead. No the the battery you use for power, but there is a watch battery inside that keeps the date & time.

replace the battery in your computer. There should be a watchlike battery, it keeps all the bios setting while your computer is off.

Try setting the correct time zone . This can be done by right clicking the time displayed in your computer's lower right corner. Then click adjust date/time. In the "date and time properties" box, click Time zone and set the proper time zone of your area.

If it resets only after reboot, you might want to check the bios battery. Replace if necessary.
