I have white clothes from work that I have to wash frequently. Using a ton of bleach isn't getting them totally clean. Does anyone out there have any good solutions as to any stuff they've used that REALLY works when it comes to washing white clothes in the washer? These are sturdy white work clothes, cotton-polyester blend.

Please, serious answers only.
I really need to find something that works.

20 muleteam borax along with your detergent. Brightens whites, also colors. My mother used it, I now use it on all my clothes, shirts look like new after repeated washings.

Do not use bleach on polyester. It is a mistake many people make. Follow the washing instructions on the white clothes. Usually the directions are the best. Also dont use vey hot water on polyester makes the clothes turn yellow. To really get clothes white try adding a little bit of baking soda to your load. Or oxiclean. Oxygen gets the clothes white also presoak any heavy stains with just warm water and tide.

What about trying the old fashioned bluing? Comes in a small bottle and follow the directions. Your whites will be slightly blue while they are wet but they will turn white when they dry. My grandmother used to mix it and rinse her white poodles with it after their baths. Imagine light blue poodle dogs running around! But they whitened up as they dried. The country school my son went to used bluing on the white chickens they were showing at the fair...they used too much and got a prize for their most unusual blue chickens!

White vinegar in the wash is supposed to work wonders. I've never personally tried it, but I know many people swear by it!

I add a cup of arm n' hammer to my whites and it seems to make them brighter....plus they smell good.

There's also something people used a long time ago...I think it's called Borax....it also whitens clothes.
