I'm currently attending a community college. I'm applying to at least eight universities, and they all have one essay question in common. It is as follows: "write a personal statement discussing your past academic carrier, and explain your reasons for wanting to leave your current college". Please help me begin this essay. Give me some ideas on how should i go about writing this essay. I think I'm experiencing writer's block. Let me know what the college is looking for in essays, especially for transfer application essays. Thank You.

Honestly? The main thing they look for is to see if you can write clearly. Many people get to college not knowing how to get an idea across using an essay.

But transferring schools is like taking on a new job. You only speak positively about both schools. You can talk about how great the old school was and everything that you learned there. Pick one or two things that stand out and make you look good. Then talk about how it is time to take on a new challenge and that your potential new school is the perfect place to do that because of x, y, and z. Make sure you pick things you're interested in. This is also the time to prove to them that you actually looked into what the school offers and how it is compatible with your goals.

You can use this essay for all the universities that ask this question. You'll just have to go back and pick a new x, y, and z and of course make sure the name of the school in the rest of the essay is correct!

This is just an idea and obviously you don't have to follow it. But definitely talk about your experience in community college, some of the things you accomplished there, what you'd like to accomplish now, and how the new school is a perfect match because of something specific that they offer.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do fine.

My advice would be to be honest and explain what your situation is. I'm assuming that you want to attend a better school, one with more opportunities (specific fields maybe), or one that you'll feel better suited for. Eight universities seems like a lot to apply to, but try to be as specific to that particular university so that it doesn't just look like a generic essay. Why specificly do you want to transfer where you are and the new one. Best of luck.

Be honest. For many people, they start off at a community college to save money and then transfer...or maybe they just didn't know what they wanted to go to school for..or just want to get out of the way the general ed requirements. Tell them your story and why you want to keep studying
