My guinea pig is already 2 years old and i can't train her at all. She bites adn nips and doesn't want to be held because she tries to get away when i try to pick her up from the cage. how can i get my guinea pig to love me? She also squeaks all the time and i can't get her to be quiet , the only way is to give her food but i dont want her to get fat so what should i do? i also keep her in a glass aquarium and some people say that provides poor ventilation but others say that if you clean it well it's all right. Help me out!

About all you can train a piggie to do is to come when you call it, or stand on its hind legs to take a treat. My piggies are all over 6 years old and they still run when I go to pick them up, that's what piggies do. They like to be held and hang out. They will set there and let me pet them. They all picked up and held 2 to 3 times a day. Keeping one in an aquarium is a good way for it to contract a respiratory infection. A guinea pig needs at least 4 square feet of cage space.

Begging for food by squealing is what piggies do also.

It really ticks me off when people don't get off their ar$e and do RESEARCH before buying an animal. Despite what people tell you a fish tank, erm I mean, aquarium. It is not suitable for guinea pigs. Look at this site for more information: www.cavycages.com

Personally I think your guinea pig isn't too happy living in a glass tank which could be the reason she nips. I wouldn't be surprised if you aren't holding her properly either. If you pick them up wrong they could get startled and bite. Put one hand under her stomach and one on her butt and GENTLY pick her up. She also might be lonely. Why don't you take the time and look through www.petfinder.com to see if there's a FEMALE guinea pig that can keep her company.

Aquariums are not sutiable for guinea pigs, they need a cage with solid flooring. For the bites does it actually bleed or is she just nipping at you, guinea pigs do that alot and I think it's pretty normal. She may be squeaking to get you're attention, or she could be lonley maybe try getting her a female friend :) they like to be kept together. I'm sure you're guinea pig does love you though.

You just need to spend more time with her on neutral ground, block off a space down a hall or in a room and eventually she'll come see you, especially if you're holding a carrot!
I would provide a cage for her if you can, there are lots of sites online that link to open cages.

sure you may practice them because guinea pigs loveeeee food and are very brought on by tidbits of vegetables. do not use the treats from puppy shops because maximum of them are undesirable for the piggies
