I believe the only person who can edit your book is you. You're the one who knows what kind of changes you want to make, and you're the one who can improve on it and add new parts. If you let someone edit your book for you, then it will become someone else's book, not yours. I always edit my own stories.

Usually book publishers supply the editors. So I guess the writer is getting the book into shape for submission. If that's the case, all you really need to edit is the first chapter to present to the publisher or agent. If you need really serious editing work go to the closest university near you and put a classified in the school newspaper. Ask for an English graduate student or someone who has editing experience. Who knows you might find a professor interested in the job?

The best editor of your work is you. You know best what you intended to say with each passage and you know best how to fix it if there's a problem. If you cannot edit your own work, you will have a problem establishing a relationship with any kind of publisher - they almost certainly will expect you to be able to do this.

Furthermore, In legitimate writing, the flow of money always goes toward the author. If you have to pay for anything at all, it is probably a scam. Even if it's not a scam it's likely to undercut any kind of literary credit you will get for your work... which probably spoils much of the point of doing the work in the first place!

Don't panic. A lot of writers aren't quite comfortable with editing, and consider it to be the actual 'work' part of writing. But really good editing can turn garbage into gold and gold into a kind of super-mega-gold. ( :

My suggestion is to contact the editor at the local newspaper.. I sure they will have the time to help you and if they don't I bet they know some others who will..
