Crawdads eat meat, they also eat bugs. These guys are bottom dwellers and are scavengers, so they eat almost anything.
When your dad gets home, show him then let the little guy go where you found him, or nearby. They steal snail shells that are empty and make this there new home.
Neat aren't they? Maybe your dad can see how responsible you are and go get you a pet at the pet store?

I found one once just stroling down the road.
Scooped him up took him home, broke off the bottom part of his claw (which would be like your thumb) and put him in the fish tank.
The reason for breaking off that part of the claw is because
1 he will/can BITE you and 2. he CAN'T EAT your fish!
You can put little pieces of bread in the tank (LITTLE PIECES) and when it sinks to the bottom of the tank, the crawfish will eat it.
Yes, it CAN eat with its claw broken, it has smaller(very tiny) claws which it uses to put food into it's mouth.
Also, it's claws WILL grow back.

You could have called and asked me, besides they really dont eat anything just put it in a fish tank, i guess it gets its nutrients from water, but dont put it in hot water, or put salt on it, because thats how we cook them! Lol
