Yes, had insomnia with PMS.
Valerian root, Kava Kava are good herbs to try before going to bed.
Don't eat too much, but eat something. Too full or too hungry keep you from sleeping.
Try to read an entertaining but not too exciting book to get your mind off things so you can drift off to sleep.

Yes, it's very common. Usually I just tough it out, but you might try cutting back on caffeine. Sometimes I'll take an OTC sleep aid.
