Is it safe to publish on lulu.com, what are the require ments to publish? Do I have to pay for it?

Lulu.com says it is free of charge, but still, If I were to publish on Lulu.com i might not publish my favorite piece of work first. Just to be safe, publish something short and small to test their program out.
