What is the main characters name and the moms name and what do u think about the kid hiding the phone from his mom?

The main character's name is Oskar Schell. It's told in the first person, so he calls his mother, "mom". I can't recall her name being said; although it may have been.

He hid the phone because he was ashamed he was too scared to answer it. He didn't want confirmation or a good bye from his father, so he ignored it. Then he felt like he had been a coward, so he hid it so no one would know. VERY sad. I loved that book.
