You look across a crowded room and meet the eyes of a stranger. Your heart beats a bit faster. Your face flushes. You have an overwhelming feeling of attraction. Is it love at first sight?

Well, i havent read the poem you are writing about, so i only read your first paragraph. I'm not sure I like the closing sentence on it so much.. These qualities are a selfless pride in one’s country, a starry-eyed, visionary view of the good that will come from the conflict, and a hopeful, quixotic mind-set throughout the battle even in the face of great terror and gore. It's almost a little too wordy... Good vocab you got going, but it doesn't have a good flow to it. "starry-eyed" probably isnt a good adjective. That is more often used for little kids looking up to someone or some ideal, i cant see a battle-hardened soldier as "starry-eyed". But other than that last sentence, the intro works for me.

honest criticism here- the biggest issue I see is that you have a few run on sentences in there. Try reading each paragraph out loud. If the words don't flow then try rewording. Also when you refer to the title of the poem "The Soldier" you should use quotation marks to show the difference between describing a soldier and mentioning the title of the poem. You have enough for a good rough draft but it does need work. Good luck with your assignment. I think you'll get a good grade.

Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, peer fiction when it comes to love at first sight. One does not simply glance at a person and immediately fall in love with a stranger. There is no substance to base the relationship-- except a meer glance. Thus, it must be so, love at first sight does not exist, or does it?

Hope this helps.
