They claim they did it for HER best interest...they did it to make their job of taking care of her easier--that is THEIR best interest...I can't believe doctors--who took an oath to "first do no harm" actually went along with this torture of an innocent child...sick, sick, sick.............

I read the article this morning and went to the blog they are using to tell their story. By making the discision that they did they will be able to care for her, keep her comfortable, and include her in family life. Without Ashley's Treatment that little girl would end up institutionalised because her parents would not be able to do all that needs to be done to care for Ashley properly. Being at home surrounded by loving family and friends is far more prefferable to institutionalisation in a sterile environment, don't you agree?
I think it is easy to judge when we don't know all the facts and when it is not us in that situation. To all those peole who are dissing the parents for their choice, what would YOU be willing to do for this couple to help? Would you volenteer your time to sit with her while they take their other children to events? Would you be willing to put yourself on a roster for bathing and feeding Ashley if she were allowed to reach her growth potential? Do you think you could manage a fully grown woman with no muscle control in a shower or bathtub? As a mum I know it's hard enough to manage a toddler at bathtime let alone a fully grown adult.
Someone mentioned euthinasia. I have been known to be pro-euthinsia, but not in this case. In the photoes of Ashley she is looking straight down the cammera lense. She knows she is recieving attention the same way a baby knows. Like a baby she can't do much to communicate but she tries. Ashley is not in a vegitatve state and euthinasia is not a solution for this family. That would be ALL about convenience for the parents. They did not even consider that as an option because it isn't one.
Instead of criticising the parents of this special child we should be offering support and compassionate understanding.
"But for the grace of God go I."
I wish them all the best in this world.

I can see their point, but just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. I have a real problem with the parents doing it for her sake. They seem to be preoccupied with the fact that they can care for her allot easier since she will remain small...A bad situation no matter how you slice it.

I just read the article and I totally agree with the parents. It does not mention the parents age, but I would bet the parents will outlive the child. My prayers are with them.

I agree with the paents......this is when euthanisia should be allowed. If the child was allowed to grow into an adult the parents would be unable to cope in their twilight years. Hopefully the child will not outlive the parents..... My sympathies are with them
