We Are...Marshall got some very negative reviews. I saw it, and thought it was absolutely awesome. The Baltimore Sun gave it a B (still not too shabby) because Matthew McConaughey talked from the side of his mouth (he was emulating his character!). One critic called it "predictable" (no sh*t Sherlock, it's a true story), and others referred to it as "formulaic", etc. (In fact, they were bashing it before the movie was even released -- I gather they don't think highly of McG and/or Matthew McConaughey.) My question is really, do you usually agree with the critics?

Okay, Palmerpat, you got me on semantics. Criticizing movies is indeed their profession and livelihood. Duly noted.

I tend to watch the movies that the critics give bad reviews to. They are usually the best.

I just saw it today and I LOVED IT! It was a real "feel good" movie that made me feel so proud to be in our country..to call it "predictable" is silly, since it's a true story, so why wouldn't it be? And if it were to really be predictable and they embellished on the story, the new team would have won more games than they did....I do not agree with the critics and do not stay away from seeing the movies they give bad reviews to, I will judge it for myself and I usually have a much different opinion than the critics.....and I usually don't enjoy Matthew McConaughey, but his sweet, down to earth and corny portrayal of the new coach was very touching......

I really enjoy reading critics and seeing what they have to say about different movies. I think people get too caught up when a critic has an opposing viewpoint to them on a specific film. I think it's important to remember that they're insulting a movie, not your firstborn, so it's not a big deal. I tend to enjoy reading what a critic has to say about a film after I have already seen it, so they are fleshing out my own opinion rather than dictating what I'm watching. The best way to go about it, in my opinion, is to use a site like MetaCritic.com , where there are reviews from multiple critics. After checking reviews for different movies you can find a critic who enjoys the same types of films that you do, then can take their advice more seriously than the others. I think if people would give critics another shot they would find that they would enrich their film-watching experience rather than detract from it.

Professional movie critics are not "so-called". Their watching and writing about movies is their profession and it's what they get payed for.
Do I usually agree? Not always, since there's hundreds and hundreds of them, usually all with differing approaches to movies and to reviewing them.
Critics I respect know and love movies, are open to new ideas and ways of looking at movies, and aren't shy about sharing their opinions. Even then, I don't always agree with them, but I'm always interested in what they have to say. Many times, a good critic can guide me to a movie I would have otherwise ignored, or warn me off a movie that looks great in a trailer but stinks full-length.
Critics see literally hundreds of movies a year, sometimes as many as a thousand. They're quick to spot repeated ideas, and over-used plots, and cliche situations, that might be new to younger or less experienced viewers. They can also pretty much tell if something is good even if it isn't new.
Ultimately the decision about whether a movie is good or not depends on you. Critics are there for guidance and suggestions, not fortune-telling.

I have went to see many movies the critics have thought were great, and I was not impressed. I left feeling like they owed me money for sitting through it..Same goes for movies I have rented with all these great reviews... We are Marshall was a good movie. I felt like I got my moneys worth there!! That is more than I can say for a lot of movies these days...

Some critics are better than others..But, I will usually give a movie a chance regardless of its rating received by critics if I like the actors/actresses and subject matter.

I try not to read those reviews, because they often discourage me from seeing movies that turn out to be very good.
