Rectangles have two different sides. The top and bottom sides are same length. The right and left sides are same width. Since, they're the same length and width, you can now add all the four sides together to get the perimeter. The perimeter formula for a rectangle is: The top length+the bottom length+ the right witdth+ the left width OR
2*(length) + 2*(width)
NOTE: * This means to multiply.

The 6 in. will be the top and bottom sides of the rectangle and 2.5 in. will be the left and right side of the rectangle. I will recommend the multiplication method.
2*6 + 2*2.5 <<< Multiply 2 to 6 first
12 + 2*2.5 <<< Then multiply 2 to 2.5
12 + 5 <<< Now you add 12 to 5
