Colin Powell was the only widely respected member of the Administration. So Bush and his henchmen set him up to take the fall about Iraq, they were very clever and Powell was a good soldier and fell on his sword. Specifically, Bush already had the report that there was no transaction of uranium to Iraq, all the intelligence agreed.

Should have given a different question. Why did Powell not return as Secretary of the State Department? Because, he has finally gotten a conscience at the end.

No way, Jose. Powel is a very honorable man and he firmly believed that the Iraqis had WMD...and they did have them. They were moved out prior to the invasion by the USA. They were moved to Syria. This has been reported by Israeli intelligence and also by an Iraqi general. The Arabs are very sly and slippery and America should have watched them more carefully. These WMD still exisit!

he did it for no other reason than that people trust(ed) powell to tell the truth...bush cynically traded on powell's integrity to sell his load of garbage...and for those comparing this to clinton, remember that clinton's lies didn't lead directly to the deaths of thousands of innocent women and children....
