Okay so here is the thing. A woman has to be fertile meaning ovulating or about to do so in order to become pregnant. However, this can change each month so she would have to know her body well enough through monthly charting or OPK's (Ovulation Predictor Kits) to know she was not ovulating and it was safe. WE know that sperm can live inside waiting for that egg for 5 days! SO even though when a woman drops her egg its only good for 12-24 hours you still have 6 days of possible fertilization. This is because in some case another egg can mature and drop and that is usually 12-24 hours after the first. That being the case, she can be fertile 5 days prior to ovulation, the day of and the day after. The risk is not knowing when she ovulates which most of us don't. Charting as I mentioned before is a tricky thing and even then you can be wrong. This is why the rhythm method is not an effective form of birth control. Soo yes, women can become pregnant anytime of the month. Even though its less likely, some women do ovulate around or on their period. Hope that clears things up. Best of luck and blessings :)

You can get pregnant only if you ovulate. And typically a woman can ovulate anywhere from day 10-18 in her menstral cycle. I was told by my OB/GYN to have sex on day 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 to increase the chances of getting pregnant and it worked for my husband and I! We just found out that we are pregnant on Christmas day. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!!

You can only get pregnant when you are ovulating. This usually occurs about 10-14 after your menstration.
