does anyone think its stupid the way our government has used our tax to get people on the public transport via a huge publicity campaign, and then proceeded to hike up the prices for it? its ridiculous, for example they introduce the congestion charge, so that more people will use our rubbish public transport, then for the third year running raise ticket prices, this is just unfair, it now costs less to use ur car in central london than it does to use public tranport

London Transport System is one of the most expensive in Europe. I agree.
However you can save money with the oyster card. For example:
Paying cash to travel in zones 1-2 for one journey will cost an adult £4. With an oyster card in zone 1 will cost £1:50. Zones 1-2 is £2 during peak hours and £1: 50 off peak. Travel unlimited journeys in zones 1-2 with a one day travel card for £6:60 peak or £5:10 off peak. There is also weekly, monthly and yearly oyster cards to cover all zones from1-6. By buying an oyster card for a week you will get unlimited travel and save more money. If you use the London transport system most days of the year buy a yearly pass and save even more money.
Oyster cards are also valid on buses. A cash fare on a bus for just one stop is now £2. Ridiculous I know.
Obviously senior management on London Transport wants to do away with the conventional tickets by charging silly prices for cash fares and encourage their customers to buy oyster cards.

I'll agree with you guys that tube prices going up is bad.
However, as a yank that visits London often, I'll just let you know that I think you guys complain too much. You have one of the best public transit systems in the world, even if it is getting more expensive.
Where I live (California), we have a couple of lame trolleys that don't go anywhere useful and have very short routes, and a very small and useless bus system. That's it. We don't have any choice but to drive. You guys are spoiled, you just don't know it :)

Cheers.

you will have been presented the choice to pay the penalty fare (now £50) instant, in case you probably did no longer have the skill to pay they they could have given you a variety asserting what you should pay. in case you refused to pay or have not back the variety with the money, then it somewhat is the reason your are being taken to court. If the court unearths you have been on the bus with out value ticket and no good reason of no longer getting one, then you truly get a conviction. this could be an excellent > £50 penalty fare and a criminal checklist. Wimbledon is a Magistrates court and that they in all probability hear a elementary few of those situations so understand the ropes.

If you work it out the prices probably equal themselves out, if you think about the price of the car, maintenance, fuel, parking, other charges. The bonus of using public transport is that you don't have to worry about all that, just hop on and off, it's not all that bad, especially when you cannot drive and have to rely on public transport.

High bus and train fares aren't confined to London. Here in Nottingham the minimum bus fare is £1-30 for less than a mile. It is cheaper to use a taxi.

yeah your right , i saw this great cartoon today in a national paper , where a business man was asking a tramp that begs on the tube stations, "got any spare change mate?". And in the background a billboard or something read "tube ticket prices soar"
