It's what on the inside that counts, I know that is cliche.
But I have to draw a line somewhere..I don't want a 104 year old 1300 pound man, covered in a thick coat of hair, with an iq of 14 and body odor. That is the line... ♥

This question is way too loaded - Have a friend who I just love as a friend (and he isn't very attractive) and I know we could "have relations" - but do I really want to screw up a good friendship?

well that depends on what you mean by relations. if you mean that kind of relation that usually happens on desperate housewives a couple times per episode then i really dk. if i loved them then yes but if i just liked them as a friend then heck no.
If you mean just knowing them and being with them then of course. why not? lol

well that is impossible to like someone and not find them attractive, since the human mind automatically creates a physical attraction when an emotional attraction is established

yeah, being attractive is not what it is all about- people who are not necessarily attractive can wind up to be the best thing you ever had. For me, the looks are not all about the person- how the person acts does it for me more than about how the person looks.
