use the 5 C's for buying jewelery:
#1:Cut
#2:Clairity
#3:Cost
#4:Color
#5:Carot(also spelled as karet)
Cut stands for the # of facets(facets are like the faces of the item)
Clairity stands for if it is pure or very white. It also means that it doesn't have anything inside like a bubble so you should probabaly bring a magnifying glass.
cost stands for like if the diamond is 2 karets/carots and it costs $1,000, then is that too expensive or is that cheap?
color doesn't stand for much. It just means like if the stone is Sapphire and is 5 carots/karots, then is the price reasonabe?
Carot is how much carots, like is it 3 carots, 4 carots, 5 carots, etc.\
You should also judge by the quality and price. NEVER buy things from online, especially ebay.

Never buy jewlery online, especially not on ebay. There, people say fake jewelery at high prices. You will totally get ripped off. The best thing to do is buy it at a jewlery store

If you don't have an outfit in mind to for you to wear the jewlery with pick jewlery with neutrual colors. If you do have and outfit in mind, find the least noticable color in the outfit that is still visiable and get jewlery that color. Stick to bulky necklaces and small earings which are really in style now. Skip the bracelet and get a chunky ring.

i don't buy any jewelry, unless i have a couple outfits i know will work with it. be especially aware of this when you are buying things like dressy jewelry, chunky jewelry. fine jewelry usually goes with anything (i'm talkin' gold necklaces and diamonds and stuff.) here are some good stores
For Love 21
Target (sells cheaper stuff, but still in style)

Go vintage, or 70s. Big beads, and long neckalces. If your have somewhere nice to go, its always better to play it safe and just wear small silver pieces because that's more traditional.

If you are buying for yourself, don't look for something too flashy or expensive - people who buy expensive jewelry for themselves are just bragging abouth their wealth.
If you are buying it for your girlfriend, anything big, bright, and extraordinarily expensive will probably be too small, too dull, and too cheap.
If you are buying it for your wife, two words - cubic zirconia.
If you are buying it as an investment, don't.
