Im currently researching on getting some stick insects, theres tons of varieties and easier than easy to look after. ok, they may not be fluffy and too exciting, but they dont bite, they're interesting to look at, like being held, they dont take much looking after apart from giving them fresh privet or such (garden bush cuttings) and a light misting every few days. I have 2 dogs, but my sis wants something else, so I thought stick insects would be perfect as I use to have them when I was younger and they're the easiest pet! have fun choosing, if not, get a few-but look after them all and they'll lurrve u too!
Oh, they're fairly hard to get hold of as they're unusual and pet shops dont usually stock them, either find a breeder or suprisingly ebay sell them..

A ferret smells like a skunk in a cage.. at least all ferrets that I've been around. They STINK! Why don't you get some fish and watch them swim. The care of them is minimal, they take little food and you don't need to worry about them if you're gone a few days.

a toy breed dog, rabbit or chinchilla. The dog can be trained from very young to be left in a cage but taken out to walk or play with only. My friend very successfully did this and she's got a very beautiful terrier that automatically goes back into her cage to snooze at night and even in the day when no one's home to be with it.

Guiena Pigs are pretty good- they reproduce a lot though, pet rats are pretty good and dont give off that much of a smell (I have a hairless and a furry one), fish are great with no smell, snakes....can be stinky, scorpions are pretty cool (my dad has one) just make sure you are well aware of how to take care of it, and tarantulas are good but make sure you also know how to take care of them. See there are many different types it just depends on what you like

Guinea pigs are usually odorless, but by the sound of it, you wouldn't clean her cage weekly and freshen the bedding daily... so yes then it would smell.
