None of any significance. Even stoned driving is not a significant problem.

You can find the major studies of the subject at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer under Major Studies of Drugs and Drug Policy. They all concluded that marijuana was not a significant threat to society.

You can find the story of why it was outlawed at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/mj_outlawed.htm

I also recommend the History Channel special as one good way to learn about the subject. The web site I have linked above was the basis for the History Channel special. I was on the show myself. I am the guy with the beard, blue suit, and red tie.

People are stupid enough without putting marijuana in the mix.

But I'd rather deal with a pothead than a belligerent drunk.

Check out the History Channel's Hooked series--they had a brilliant one on marijuana. Basically, it was outlawed because Mexican immigrants were bringing it in the country with them when they came here to work back in the early 1900s. Then, the Depression hit, people flipped out about the lack of jobs, and the Mexican immigrants, who usually had a little weed on them, were being thrown in jail and deported left and right for marijuana "offenses."

It was legal before that!

Check the history on drugs...you'll see that drug laws are crazy hypocritical and racist and ridiculous in many cases.

Not that I do drugs. But I can spot hypocrisy a mile away (even without my thick dork glasses.)

As a smoker myself, I'd have to say the largest societal problem would be the de-motivation that marijuana encourages.

Stoned driving! I don't care if people smoke, but stay the hell off the roads when you do. Oh, and it's still illegal.
