This March I'm planning on visiting Prague and Munich and was thinking of taking a train. I have a few questions:
1 What are the names of train lines that go this route and are they costly?
2 Are reservations required for this particular train or do they come around every so often like a subway stop and you just hop on?
3 Are there any good websites that have more info on this train?
4 Finally, is the trip long?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE!!!!

Here's a link to Rail Europe. Check it out. It will answer ALL your questions. I just returned from Germany, and took the train from Frankfurt to Berlin and Back. I purchased the tickets by myself before I left from this website. It's great. The trains in Europe are wonderful. I have ridden them a lot!
Enjoy your trip!!!

I took this train in 2000. I am not sure what the names of the lines are. The round-trip cost can range anywhere from $100 to $300 depending on the train you take, and if you get first class or not (first class usually includes free food). A direct route will be about 6 hours each way.

enjoy Prague it is a BEAUTIFUL city

see my link in the souces for a great place to buy train tickets.

The trains will be EuroCity abbreviated EC, at least the fast trains.

If you are going in March, you probably won't need a reservation, plus it costs about 10 USD extra. That being said, it sucks being on a long ride with no seat.

Try this link: http://jizdnirady.atlas.cz/ConnRes.asp?tt=a&from=1&from=0&from=6135&froml=-1&to=1&to=0&to=5107&tol=-1&date=6.1.2007&time=0:37&min1=5&max1=240&alg=1&isdep=1&beds=0&chn=5&stop=0&odcht=0&odch=50&link=B6BB&prev=0&handle=54490

If that doesn't work, try www.idos.cz and click on the British flag for English and use your noodle from there.

trip is at least 6 hours, you might want to stop in Pilsen if you like beer and have a tour of the brewery to break the trip up.

You may also want to consider the many discount airlines that fly between the cities i.e. Air Berlin and German Wings come to mind. They are very inexpensive, almost always less than the train. Prague has excellent public transportation, clean and safe. When in the center of Prague, find a great place to eat called "Checz Kitchen", low prices and a cafeteria style service.
