Well, yes, but they are pretty basic. You need to be able to type, answer the phone, take detailed messages. It helps if you are friendly and get along well with others and follow directions. You will likely also be asked to alphabetize, file, and possibly make lunch arrangements or travel arrangements. In a fancy office you might need to be able to use a dictophone machine or to do shorthand.
If you are smart you will do fine - since most places train you to the way they want stuff done. I did a lot of temp work to gain my secretarial skills - and I loved starting a new job every week or 2, and not getting involved in the office politics and such. I also am an ace at job interviews because of it and have a very diverse reserve of information. That's my best recommendation for folks wanting to enter the work force in an office - temp work.
Peace!

Mainly computer skills and the ability to learn new task. Each office is different and may need different things from you. You may also need to have people skills since you may be the first person someone sees coming into your office and also you will be answering phones. Just basic stuff. Can you use a fax machine? Copier? If not lie and learn how. Fake it till ya make it.

There are many skills that a good secretary needs to be successful. Typing (word processing), computer skills such as Excel and Word, phone skills, interpersonal skills, scheduling appointments, filing, etc.
Try taking a test at a temp. office to see how many skills you have.

You should have at least 35 WPM typing speed, along with numeric and number filing ability, and knowledge of multi-line phone systems or switchboards. Microsoft office knowledge (work, excel, powerpoint, access) would be a great benefit as well.
