People don't like smart people because they are arrogant, self-centred and often don't have a lick of compassion for those less fortunate then themselves.

I wouldn't say the average person is "dumb" but just that. Average. They often have to work alot harder to find success, but when they do probably find a higher sense of accomplishment when they achieve their goals. As a smarter person, I find it harder to interact with people because I have different interests and are kinda lacking in social skills, but I don't think that applies to everyone. You can't judge a group of people by a few individuals. I think being really smart can be a bit of a curse, I wish I could just be considered normal.

I find that the average person can, for the most part-- speak--so they are not dumb. Sorry ---I couldn't resist
OK--seriously. I think most people are intimidated by someone who can do something better than they can. Because the average person is of average intelligence it would stand to reason that the more intelligent person is more capable of fooling the less intelligent person to take advantage of him/her in some way. I think folks of average intelligence are more leery of smart people and, out of self-protection, might shun the person with a higher IQ.

On the whole I find that people do not have a problem with people who are more intelligent than they are. Some people admire people who are very intelligent. The average person is just of average intelligence. That's all.

when I was a child people around me didn't like me saying BIG words.so I learned not to.I have read about 3000 books.attended university's.taken many courses in subjects I like. have about a 170 IQ.and people sometimes have no idea about what I am saying. or the jokes I make.they think I am weird.my father was the same way I am and he seemed to be the only person to understand me.I am also very creative, so that doesn't help a bit.Yes. people appear to be not as smart as some,because there not. its that simple.were not to judge. Everyone according to the gifts there given.But as to your question. Yes I have had hostile remarks made to me.such as, what do you think you are a dictionary. you think you know it all don't you. your a smart a s s..people think I wont to make them a certain way because I am a certain way. they get defensive and argumentative.I have taught myself to speak to people in a simple way.Peace
