Cockfighting is a Southern Tradition. This has been going on for many many years. People have lots of money tied up into these roosters & they fight to the end. You have gaffs that replace the spurs & in some cases they use knives instead of gaffs. The roosters are matched together by weight & placed in a pitt with a handler & are "introduced" to eachother. @ this time they are let loose & start fighting. This is all by natural instinct, the roosters fight eachother b/c that is their nature not b/c the handlers make them. The roosters can run but they DON'T. The fight to the death. From what I understand they fight anywhere from 5 seconds to 2 hours just until one chicken stops pecking. It's not a "bloodsport". This is an American Tradition, let it live on.

Cockfighting is massive in the Philippines. Live on TV, huge purse goes to the winner, plus big bucks for future breeding opportunities go to the victorious cocks--and it's all legal.
Fantastic sport, bloodthirsty, but fantastic.

I read in a magazine that the owners of the cock would bite into the chickens head and draw blood because of the possible transmission of that bird disease. It was like a replacement for the needle. There could be any sort of disease on the other roosters.

I think I know its illegal in most states. I also think that they put extra metal spurs on the roosters and turn them loose in a circular pen. Whichever rooster kills the other is the winner.

roosters fighting, usually gamecocks. people bet on it. people raise them. it is illegal. they confiscate birds and kill them, which is hypocritical. gamecocks fight without special breeding or training,it's in their nature.
