Dont ask us-ask your daughter, LOL

She probably has a clear idea of what she wants so ask her and then listen without judging. If this isnt the case then read on...

First decide if you are you looking to host a formal or informal event? It sounds like you want formal but will this go over well with the guests. All good parties revolve around the guest of honor and cater to what the guests will find entertaining.

Creating a theme-Hollywood Glam might get expensive expecially if you expect your guests to dress to reflect that theme. You may be able to find resources from local film studios that could help with the decorations-its my understanding that some are stored but others are tossed. Check it out.

Consider another theme-if she likes a local beach create a beach motiff. I know that this sounds wierd but most people in CA take the beaches forgranted and it might create a unique atmosphere.

Come up with several ideas and then talk to the staff at the venue-many have strict stipulations on what they do and dont allow and some have restrictive age policies or require excessive security deposits for the 18-21 crowd. Consider a night club that caters to the 18-21 crowd on a night they would normally be closed-this is easier to do in the summer.

For a formal event I love mirrors and candles-check your local dollar store or discount store for the candles that are battery operated. They are safe and most halls will allow them.

Balloons are always a good option because they can be secured with weights-you can create weights using unique items that match your theme and filling them with sand or pebbles. Sand is cheaper :-)resale shops often have items good for this purpose-maybe a unique set of glasses at the guest of honors table filled with fake flowers and rocks. Glass bowls are great centerpieces and can be filled with rocks, sand or marbles to secure balloons or mixing colored rocks with marbles-the marbles will glow with the color of the rocks.

Most of the items above can be found in the craft area of your local dollar store-my favorites are dollar tree and dollar castle.

Good Luck-your daughter is very fortunate to have a mother who cares enough to ask for help.
