I tend to agree with you. Life is about living and enjoying, this can be defined as pleasure/satisfaction in achieving our aims and goals. Some people have simplistic ideals, whilst others' are more complex; and maybe impossible to attain. When we become unrealistic about the goals in which we want to achieve, that is when it becomes problematic. Hence crime, depression, mental deficencies, pure selfishness etc etc.

Its not that people have different 'aims' of how to get it, its that people 'have' different pleasures that they want satisfied. I don't really agree that the point of life is getting pleasure. There are different answers to what is the point of life and why we are here.

You have the fact that we ar merely animals on the planet the same as any other species just trying to mate and survive, however this doesn't really explain why we have been given such vastly superior intellect than other animals.

You have the religious side, that we are here to serve and to be diciples of a god (whichever it may be) and in the dicipline we hold on this mortal earth we get to enter a higher state.

I think personally that we are in search of happiness and contentment. Pleasure itself is an afrodisiac and only lasts a while where as contentment lasts forever, whether it be in a true love, your children or even in the simple act of living out your life.

Who said or where did you see, or come to the conclusion that we are all here for pleasure?

There are gonna be a lot of people sadly disappointed then. You do not have to look far to see the misery and suffering going on in the world. I would have thought SURVIVAL was top of the list.

I think reasoning stuff out over the years, it appears to me its a trial of some sorts - how you act, re act, treat others, prove your worth, etc., But this is merely my impression.

True enough we all appear to have different aims, goals as it were, and that is down to our own wonderful individuality?

Hedonic Calculus- The pursuit of happiness is the fundamental purpose of human life. Bentham consisted in promoting whatever factors led to the increase of pleasure and in suppressing those which produced pain. In short, Bentham stated that pleasures and pains, which exist only in individuals, could be constructed into a calculus of value. Basically a way of measuring the outcome of pleasure, which you should consider before doing any moral action.
Hedonic calculus considers seven factors which include:

1. The intensity of the pleasure or pain.

2. The duration of the pleasure or pain.

3. The certainty or uncertainty of the pleasure or pain.

4. The remoteness of any pleasure or pain. (Propinquity)

5. The chances of the same effects being repeated. (Fecundity)

6. The chances of the same effects not being repeated. (Purity)

7. The number of people who will be affected by any pleasure or pain arising as a result of the action(s) in question.

no i dont agree, point of life is not pleasure. pleasure is merely a by product of a life well lived and only from a human perspective,
as we are the only (known) lifeform that seeks pleasure for pleasures sake. why do we assume life has to have a point? we are, we exist, we expire, our pleasures have no bearing upon nature they are a personal internal thing. i think that a more appropriate lifestyle is in giving pleasure.
spread it around and make a happy place! (sod the "point"!)

that is exactly what came to me one day when I was in my dorm
and it confused the **** out of me because all this time, I had been criticizing a lot of people, and I turned out to be a hypocrite and then I started to think about people being aware of it or not and the value of whatever someone does to satisfy themselves and once again I was dumbfounded, who am I to judge someone who indulges in crazy sex and drugs or someone who reads and contemplates, even though one seems to be more extreme, it's something more characteristic of simple pleasure where as the other you have to look at it a different way to see it as pleasure, that realization made me think twice before I started judging someone, I've always been very judgemental

everyone has a different way of attaining satisfaction from life, satisfaction is pleasure

I don't know if I made sense or went off on a tangent

Thats a Hedonistic point of view. But even then the pursuit of pleasure has certain limits, like self preservation. As far as different aims it can be allowed within this system, as one has to follow their bliss within legal and social lines.

The lord giveth - so use it!! whatever it might be

Like giving a dog a bone, then saying if you really love me and desire fullfillment in the afterlife (whatever that is) don't eat it

Use whatever is at your disposal to live life to the full, don't hurt anyone else, and you will have had a righteous life, and will not regret a thing - Then on your deathbed discover God, who forgives all sinners - just in case!!

No, this is not true. You cannot have pleasure without pain, they are one and the same thing - Part of a spectrum called sensation. Pleasure usually derives from the the relief of pain.

What you have to ask yourself is this, "are you something which is separate from it, or are you it"?

It is not pleasure as such.People are in search of something that satisfies them.It msy be power, money or sex.If they get what they want, they are satisfied. It is the "need" for something and getting that makes people content. If you reduce your needs you can be happy.
