That would be Hiram Percy Maxim.
Not to be confused with his father, Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim. Sir Maxim invented the 'Maxim Machine Gun', smokeless power, a delayed fuse, and a model of airplane.
Hiram Percy, on the other hand, is best known for his amateur radio work. But he also developed the first commerically successful gun silencer in America (the 'Maxim Silencer', appropriately enough) as well as a silencer for internal combustion engines... what we'd call a 'muffler' today.

why would you look for historical information on a silencer on an airsoft site? that's like looking for the creator of the combustion engine on a hotwheels site man.
