Advantages of legalizing marijuana:
1. Taxes,
2. Good Business, and
3. Happy users.

Oh my god, some of these answers are ignorant.

The marijuana laws were absolute lunacy from the very beginning. It was outlawed for two major reasons. The first was because "All Mexicans are crazy and marijuana is what makes them crazy." The second was the fear that heroin addiction would lead to the use of marijuana -- exactly the opposite of the modern gateway myth.

It is worth noting that the American Medical Association said that there was no evidence that marijuana was a dangerous drug and, therefore, no reason for making it illegal.

There are many pros, including the fact that we would no longer punish people for something that shouldn't be a crime, and that we will save a lot of money in the process.

You can find the story of why it was outlawed at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/mj_outlawed.htm

You can find the major studies of the subject -- all of which said that marijuana should be legal -- at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/studies.htm Those studies contain complete analyses of the pros and cons of legalization. They are the most comprehensive research ever done on the subject.

None. Go to Amsterdam and you will find out.

1. High murder rates in Marijuana Districts.

2. More muggings.

3. Violent Crime Rates jump 30% higher than non marijuana ditricts.

4. Roberies and break-ins.

5. More law enforcement needed to stop violent crimes.

6. More tax revenue is spent fighting crime in marijuana districts.

7. No one is even bothered to work in the marijauna districts since they are too stoned to work.

8. More whore houses open and all whores want is more weed. Not money.

9. More cops get killed in Marijauna Districtys than any district.

10. Marijuana is a plant that needs to be eliminated off this planet. Since nobody will be bothered to work anymore and wnat to beg on the streets and threaten people for money to buy more.

There are no pros just more tax money being collected to hire more law enforcement officers since everyone is stoned and not making money.

No more police time/money spent arresting and incarcerating someone for possession of a plant. No more courts tied up with cannabis cases. No more jails filled with minor cannabis offenders. No more profits in the hands of criminals. More taxes, a portion of which can be put towards education and rehabilitation services. And, I'd be able to walk down the street to 7-11 and buy a pound of good buds for $50 instead of having to shell out hundreds or thousands to a shady drug dealer.

William F Buckley did a good piece on legalizing marijuana. So did Readers Digest. Do a GOOGLE search on these.

You can tax it as all other sins are taxed.
It will become cheaper and take it out of the crime element (just like lotteries/numbers games)
Fewer law enforcement guys focused on weed and more can focus on other things like terrorism and/or harder drugs
Fewer people in the court system for a relatively minor issue.

Look at the netherlands-- its "legal" there.

Tax revenue. This is the largest cash crop in America, outstripping Tobacco and Soy Beans. Plus it is a step toward a reasoned approach to a problem rather than a reactionary one like we have.

* More law enforcement money freed up to fight dangerous drugs like crystal meth and cocaine and heroin.
* Less people in prison for infractions that don't make them a danger to the public and who would otherwise not be criminals.
* Freedom.
* Increased donut sales.
