Ok, I'm not completely illiterate when it comes to computers, but I'm in a bit of a bind here. At the school that I go to in my dorm room I have 2 ethernet jacks, however there are going to be three people using the ethernet jacks, my question is, is there an item on the market that will turn one of my ethernet jacks into two, similar to a power strip. I would need to know the name of the item and where I could buy such a thing (internet, amazon, bestbuy etc...) Any help that you could offer would be much appreciated.

You can buy routers that can split that ethernet jack (typically into 4 connections) or even provide wireless!

You can get it from Bestbuy, Walmart, Radioshack, http://www.dell.com , and many other places!

They're prettymuch plug and play.

definately get a router, not a hub. be careful when you buy one, though! they look very similar. the setup is very simple, and if you are all running xp or mac osx all you really gotta do is plug everything in and turn it on. there is a specific order to that, though, so follow the instructions. there is little or no need for the software that routers come with, i don't know why they even bother. available almost everywhere, some go for less than 50 bucks! also, keep an eye open for products with mail-in rebates. you could save over 50%!

You can use a Hub, to split the connection further. Found at any electronics/computer store.
