School is like prison - that is simply cruel and unusual punishment. If my kid came home with a note like that I wouldn't sign it.
The American education system is garbage and no one is doing anything about it. It's a shame. The generation that is taking over ... ah never mind.

That is a stupid punishment for high school, although I suppose it does serve it's purpose. The students will think it is a waste of their time, so they'll obey the rules in order to keep their free time. But I still think it is a bad high school punishment, I could see elementary school, but not high school.
I know at my school, an after school detention is usually one hour and you have to be doing school work during it, otherwise you get more detentions.

It seems kinda odd that they'll have you standing facing a wall for 2 hrs. Maybe it's for repeat offenders. Or maybe for those who have been written up X amount of times in a quarter?? Usually if you are late for next period because you were talking to the teacher that teacher will write you a pass for your next class. Did you ask for one?? And I'm wondering what the heck was up with YOU that day to get in trouble for so many other things in one day? Trouble maker??

I believe that is not the correct punishment and is on the obsessive side. Especially standing up against a wall for 2hrs!!! I feel like they should have one be working on homework and teachers there to help out. To get something accomplished while there that pertains to school. It sounds like they are way out of control and I feel like the parents should get together to get something changed. I know I would if my kids had to go up against this.

Absolutely! This time should be used to help these students become more responsible for their actions. Make them use this time to talk about why they are there and how they can avoid being sent back there. Then use some of the time to watch over them and answer questions as they do their homework.

I used to have a teacher who would draw a circle on the blackboard and you had to place your nose in the circle and remain there until excused. We'd get detention for the same stuff you mentioned, and also if we were caught chewing gum.

Colossal waste of time! But take advantage of the time and learn to nap standing up. Or you could do some on the spot stretching and get a workout in. If they complain about your movement just explain it may be fine for them to try to waste your time but you prefer to take advantage of this opportunity to better yourself.

That seems to be a simple punishment .. I don t know what could be learned from it ... Teachers could have doubled up the homework assignments and gave you two days to finish them . That would have sucked .
