On the distributor cap right next to where the hot wire plugs in there is another slot where the tach plugs in.

If you look at the top of the distributor cover (held on by three screws), the connections are marked. there is Battery (+), Tach and distributor module connections. Connect your tach lead to the center connector marked "Tach".

If you have an HEI distributer it is rigt on the cap...You have some wires that go from the cap to the distributer base for the ignition module, one wire that is 12volts to the cap for a coil feed and right next to that there is usually an open/ un-used port, your tach would go into that.

Check real close on the distributor, it will tell you in fine letters.
