i offer the following for your consideration. this culture is more toxic than not. it is hyper materialistic and run by psychopaths who consider "successful" those with wealth and status, not withstanding the absence of honesty, integrity, sincerity, and any level of wisdom in their makeup or character. this is hardly a cause for celebration. as a matter of fact the absence of these traits is a big help in "making it" in a fascisto-corporate world, where lying, cheating and murdering are everyday practices. sadly, in this milieu, if you have a quite high i.q., the emotional age of 7, and no scruples, whatever, you're almost guaranteed "success". obviously, this doesn't apply to all involved in that life; but, based on my experience, to a substantial majority, especially "at the top". in a pathological society, the ruthless and heartless always rise to the top ;-) find out what you truly enjoy doing; pursue it with your whole being, and maintain your integrity. be among the "valuable" vast minority. best of luck !!

Success does mean different things and to different people. Some focus on money, others power, others happiness and still other freedom. When I was in highschool I wanted to do something with computers or advertising (like Darren Stevens from Bewitched). I never went to college - I knocked around in various jobs for a while. I spent a few years doing phone sales and telemarketing, then started to temp work and taught myself the computer skills that most interested me. I never really liked working for others - I always wind up feeling taken advantage of - so I think my greatest success came when I started working for myself. I can't tell you how important the freedom and the ability to walk in the sun is to me - to be the master of my own ship. I carefully picked a husband who started working from home too and we will never go back to the cubicle. That, to us, was success - until we had children.

Now that we have children or entire lives are different - I seem to be becoming a stay at home mom and homeschool teacher and counsellor in my local mother's community. My ideas about success now revolve around educating my kids the way I want to and easing the way for other mothers.

I guess ultimately, my idea of success is simply being able to do just what I want to do, when I want to do it - no matter where my life leads me.

Peace!

Success is "something" that is 100% directly related to happiness in family life. Some may describe that something as money or fame. However, if there's no peace in family life, then there's no success no matter how much money or fame you have. Now that you are deciding your future course, try to see what accomplishments will not be in the way of a harmonious family life.

You many want to read the book, "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.

It means something different for everyone.

One guy down the road believes success is sitting on his as$ all day while the wife works. He does odd jobs for people and says money isn't everything. THAT is success to HIM.

I believe differently but will not write a book here describing it.

Happy Thursday !!

For some success means doing something that everyone else will "wow" over because of the money it brings in and the status that comes with it.

True success for me is doing something I love and that makes me happy regardless of the pay.

Success comes from within and how YOU see yourself and your vocation. Just remember to never apply someone else's definition of success to yourself. You may end up striving for something that'll make you miserable.

For me it means to make a career out of something you love to do.For example I'm into computers and i dream to be the leading designer for a bad *** game...well my ambitions aren't that high actually.I just want to be a web designer or a 2D/3D artist.Talent and hard work will determine how far you will go.

it means something different to everybody. there is no single definition for success. many people believe it's becoming wealthy, but true success is having family and friends that love you and living a content, fulfilling life, doing whatever it is that you care about.

maybe you are already successfull and don't even know it!! some may define success with a monetary value...success should not have a $ value attached to it. to me success is when you set a goal, persue it and achieve it. a person who sleeps in the street no money,no job, can't read or write, gets their life together learns to read and write gets some job doing who knows what are they successfull???
(not assuming people in the street can't read or write:)

Success is getting/achieving what you set out to get or achieve. It isn't strictly career related. ie If you set out to lose 20lbs or 10kgs and you achieve that goal then you are successful.
