My guess would be 87 octane. To be sure, check the owner's manual. That will give you the best grade of gas to use, and not waste money on premium fuel, if you don't have to.

The manufacturer recommends that you use 87 octane. Use it. You won't notice ANY difference between the 87 and the 92, or the 95 if you can find it.
There is no more energy stored in the higher octane than in the lower octane. You will get no better mileage with the higher rated fuel. All of the chemicals are the same. The only difference is the anti-knock compounds added to the fuel.
This idea of using the higher octane fuel (and the more EXPENSIVE fuel) comes from the old days when we could advance the ignition timing several degrees, and then use the higher grade fuel to eliminate the "ping" that resulted from the advanced timing. This gave us a little bit more of the "seat of the pants" feeling during acceleration.
Your truck's ignition timing is managed by the computer, and even if you advance it, the computer will retard it to eliminate the ping it senses, even when you can't hear it.
If you want to use the more expensive fuel, you are in effect putting an inlaid saddle on a plow horse. He don't care, and the saddle doesn't seat you any better than a good work saddle.

Here are a few possible answers: Some recent Chev/GMtrucks - and maybe some others, have a temporary disable. Engine running, push DOME OVERRIDE button 4 time within 6 seconds; and if you did it right, it will beep, and the DRLs will be disabled, until you turn the truck off. Half-assed, but better than nothing. GM 98 full size truck - (probably same for 96-99 C/K). There is a cigarette pack sized finned black heat sink (this is a double diode, 2 volt drop) located near the steering column. Unplug the 2 wire connector, this will remove DRL on any GM car using low beam DRL. (Will not defeat the auto ON) GM fullsize trucks 96-98' - At the bottom of the dash about where your right knee is there is a small bulge. Under this bulge is a 2" square finned relay (actually a 2volt drop diode) Use pliers to bend retaining bracket. Remove and unplug.

Your truck will do just fine on 87 Octane. The higher the octane the more you pay with no difference in performance. The higher octanes are for high performance engines i.e. dodge viper, chevy corvette. As a preventative maintenance I add a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner to my fueltank every couple fill ups and after 190,000 miles on my vehicle I haven't had to replace any fuel related parts.

No matter what type of vehicle the higher the octane the better performance as far as raw power gose. Octane is in essence alchohol, and the higher it is, the hotter it burns. If you put pure 100 octane into your car, it is Drag Racer fuel and be my guest because your engine will melt. Still the 91 which is most super unleadeds octane rating, will be the best if you are looking for speed. For better mileage, the premium which is the median between super and regular would be the best.

I have tried 87,89 and 93 octane in my truck and didn't see any difference .The buyer's are supposed to check the octane rating at each delivery. It does vary. I think it is all around 87.
I have alway's been curious about gas deliveries.
They must have 3 separate compartments in each tanker truck then, right ? There are 3 separate covers in the ground next to the pump, right ? I think there is ONE big tank down there and we are all getting `pooned'

what I would do is buy a tank of the highest octane you can find and add to that the best octane booster. With that combination if you do not notice any difference then by all means stay with the cheap stuff.
I buy 94 octanne feul and I definately notice the diffence.

My 99 Tahoe with the Vortec 350 runs fine on 87. You cant tell a difference from 87 to 92.
