Im having trouble explaining his seemingly Anal Expulsive tendencies. The whole thing just dosent seem to add up because nothing seems to go wrong for him until hes seven; which would rule out anal expulsiveness but it dosent make sense because his personality exactly fits an Anal Expulsive person; subsequently he also seems a little orally fixated also. So any ideas or help anyone could offer on him or in-depth knowlage of Freudian Psychoanalisis would be greatly appreciated. But please this is a college level term paper so only reply if you actually have factual insightfull info, I dont mean to be a dick but i just dont wanna fail.

Are you locked into the psychodynamic model as a way to frame your psychobiography? It's just that terms like anal expulsive are a little out of date and it might be easier to take a more modern approach - maybe a developmental or psycho-social approach? Anyway, if you are commited to a Freudian approach, there doesn't necessarily have to have been an identified trauma during the anal period in order for someone to have anal expulsive traits. Or the trauma may not have been identified at the time and symptoms only emerged when Cobain was age 7. He was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and his parents divorced at that age. Was he really ADD or was that just a manifestation of issues brought out by the problems in his parents' marriage? He talks about feeling shame around their divorce and shame is definitely an anal issue, no? It also seems clear that Cobain had issues around his own masculinity and sexuality - perhaps further indication of his shame concerns. His ambivalence about fame - his not wanting to be a celebrity - not wanting to be looked at, etc. could also be interpreted as relating to his feelings of doubt and shame about himself. If you go that route, start looking at shame and guilt in his life and relate that back to anal issues, you might have good thread to work through his life. Good luck.

talk about drama people.......what the heck is up with all the negativity? what's with all the thumbs-downs? Sure he claimed that some of his lyrics didn't make sense (listen to the lyrics of 'On a Plain' lol) but that doesn't mean that there's no meaning behind it, right? Sheesh, I'm tired of all the Nirvana/Kurt Cobain hatred on R&P. As I've stated many times before, Nirvana is overrated with the fans and underrated with the haters......all you haters need to realize that his band was NOT the worst thing to happen to music as you claim! During their prime, they were critically acclaimed! I bet if R&P existed in 1992, everyone would be raving about how great they were! Many of you hate them because they became legends after Kurt's death. So what? When I first listened to them, I didn't get into the band because of his death, but because of the MUSIC. Who cares if he's dead? I would listen to Nirvana whether Kurt Cobain was dead or alive. damn No, I'm not trying to get all you haters to became fans or anything, but you have to give the band credit and respect. GSP: your welcome :) but your answer was good too!
