Personally, when I was a paper girl, I had to put the papers on the front porch or wherever the customers designated. If they had a paper box, I'd put it in there.
Sometimes you see mail slots, but mail usually goes in a box by the door, or in a box on a pole if it's a rural route and mail is delivered without the carrier getting out of the truck. Some of those driveways are like, two or three miles long, and rural mail carriers just can't walk to every house.
I'll do whatever the mail carriers want--I like mail service and I'll pay the 39 cent stamp rate...just mail my stuff.
In the US, three kids were mailed through the regular parcel service. Eventually, mailing people was outlawed, but three officially went through the mail.
Hope they didn't get shoved through a mail slot!

Houses here have either a mailbox outside OR a mail slot on the front door. Newspaper are usually just thrown in the lawn or garage. Some houses have a box for newspapers underneath the mailbox.

it depends where you live, some house's like in the suburb's and rural places have mailboxes outside your house, some mailboxes have another box for newspapers, sometimes someone does through it on your doorstep or lawn, and some but not very many have slots in the doors, or a mailbox on the outside of the house on the wall right by the door, but that's more for little cities, or condos or townhouses. In bigger cities like New York City they have all the mailboxes, kind of like little lockers that have a key inside the building. It basically just depends where you live.

Some places have a mailbox outside the house, others through the door, others on the house and some (like me) have to walk halfway down the street for a collective mailbox that goes for everyone living on the street.
And our newspaper is dropped on the road, somewhat close to the driveway.

My paper is usually found either in the bushes or under my car. Ive since cancelled.
Mail depends on where you live. In large condo residences, there is usually a large community box with locks for each unit. Some single family homes have mailboxes on the porch or out in front near the street dso the postman can drive up and deliver. Or, some homes have a mail slot in the door.

I live in a 150 unit apartment complex and all the mailboxes are together in the lobby. People who subscribe to newspapers seem to get them at their front door though. I don't know how the delivery person is getting in the building at 4 in the morning --- he must either have a key or waits until someone enters or leaves.

Some houses have door slots and some have mailboxes on the porch and some have mailboxes at the foot of their driveway. Our newspaper is thrown onto the driveway.

it depends on where you live...
in a lot of newer housing developments, there will be one or two large mailboxes on each street with different locked compartments for each house. In older areas, each house might have its own mail box out in front of the house or on the porch, but yes, some house still have slots in the doors.
as far as newspapers go..there are delivery boys who throw you the paper, usually on the driveway or front porch.

I live in a rural area and naturally the letter carrier deposits my mail in a box that is set up on the edge of the road. We get door delivery when certified mail or large packages are coming.
