I have no experience of driving on the road (apart from a push bike) and I was wondering if I should buy a bike instead of learning to drive a car as it is cheaper and I am a student.

I've ridden on the street since 1990, and it's definitely not for everyone. If the weather is good, it's easier to get around on a motorbike than a car; but when the weather gets bad, advantage goes to the car.

If you're unlucky enough to collide with another vehicle, which is much more likely in your first years of driving, you're much better off in a car.

If you need to transport a lot of stuff (furniture, etc.), then you're better off with a light truck or car.

If you plan on making it your only method of transportation, I would reccommend getting a car over a motorcycle. Not only can be driven all times of the year, you can use it for many things, it's safer.

A motorcycle has it's pluses but the fact that there is limited baggage space, only 1 other passenger, dangerous to ride in raid/snow would make it a big turn off as a main method of transportation. Simple things like getting groceries are a pain on a motorcycle and not possible unless you buy saddlebags but even then the space is limited.

Plus insurance will be alot higher for a car than a motorcycle especially at your age. I'm guessing you're fairly young since you don't have either a permit to drive a car or motorcycle.

Motorbikes are alot cheaper on fuel and buying one, but they are heaps more dangerous than a car when you are driving on the road. I have been riding motorbikes since i was 3 but i am never going to ride motorbikes on the road for transport to dangerous.
