I found a blockage in the flexy pipe coming out of the back of mine! Simply 'flex' the pipe...it may feel quite heavy, this is the buildup of greasy gunge from detergent, alot will simply break clear, but its saying theres a buildup of gunge in the washing machine. Get a bag of Washing Soda, ASDA, 55 pence, empty whole bag into machine, very hot wash (no soap or clothes) this will clear any gunge, and give your drains a spring clean. So good, I do this every other month.

You don't say what kind of washing machine you have or model #. Different machines work differently. Does it agitate like it should?
On some models there is a mechanism called the wig wag. It is suppose to change gears from agitate to pump and spin. Check the following web site and it will describe it better for you. sometime a wire might break going to a solenoid or a cotter pin to the gear change linkage might break. If this doesn't help e-mail me and maybe we can figure it out...

The pump possibly. At the end of the wash cycle does the wash water empty or does it go through the rinse cycles with the washing water still in the machine.... Either the pump has failed or there is a complete blockage of the emptying waste pipe.. Sounds like an engineer will be required...

It looks as if your pump has worn out, you don't say whether the machine drum operates when washing. your diagnosis implies that its the main motor which is not working. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the drain hose wash blocked, once I cleaned it out the machine worked perfectly.

sorry to hear, mine went on 25/12/06, after 14 years of cleaning, same problem, it was the plastic dial thing that told the machine to drain and spin and the pump as well, I just had to bite the bullet and buy a shiny new one.

Is your washer a modern one, sounds like a possable fault on pannel as you have no drum or pump action.to see if motor brushes have worn get access to motor and select a spin programme and tap motor with something that cant conduct elecricity. If it starts to spin then you know its brushes.I repair washers and dryers all day long but its hard to diagnose something like this.m31_1980@yahoo.co.uk,let me know how you get on,if its not that i will try and help you again. mel

Most of the time that is the symptom of a broken belt. How did you look at the pumps?

Replace the water pump. Pretty easy to do - just loosen and tighten screws.
