Some people can't are just really bad at prioritizing. They subconsciouly have no ability to plan ahead of adhere to a schedule. Others just underestimate the time it takes to travel, do errands, etc. Some cultures (like Brazil, for example) actually expect you to be late. If you arrive at one of their parties on time then you will be waiting an hour or two before everyone else even shows up.
I highly doubt that most anyone actually thinks to themselves "I am going to be late because I am better than everyone else".

Yes, I agree with Dr. Phil, people who are late most of the time, do not know how to schedule their time. All they are thinking about is themselves. Consider the other person who is waiting for them to arrive, they have made sure they are ready. It is just too rude to be late all of the time. Everyone's time is just as important as the next persons. Don't we all hate waiting at the Doctor's office ?!?!

my favorite "dr." phil anecdote concerns a questioner asking him whether he thought it was odd that a person--dr phil, who was the author (ostensibly) of a diet book, appeared to be rather overweight, himself? the good dr's creative answer--no, it's all muscle--i played football back in college and that's why i'm so burly now. numerous folks giggled. ah, the "elect", and their contempt for the truth ;-) .on topic, a lot of people who arrive late, in my experience, are just "poor planners",slightly spacey, or not obsessive-compulsive. none were arrogant. could he be a person who is "often wrong, but never in doubt"? now, that's arrogant !! and seems characteristic of a typical narcissist sociopath. ;-)

I never considered them arrogant... Though there would be no traffic delays where I am from, so anyone late in my life I consider to be just too stupid to get their a$Sin gear and get going.
I am never late... not sure how anyone who makes a conscience effort can be.

Absolutely! It IS about people who NEVER consider others--and if they're dashing around they need to plan better--traffic or not!
It is TOTAL DISRESPECT for other people's time.

Arrogance may be one way to describe people being late, but it is being insensitive to others because everyone has schedules and appointments. Being consistently late tells most folk that their feelings and demands don't matter and are unimportant.

It's ok if it doesn't become a habit but mostly it's irritating and arrogant.
