I'm very over worked at work...I have two kids and when they get sick, I must take off...I don't have sick days, I work from 8am - 5pm or 9am - 6 every day, work every other Sat. for 3 hours, still don't get 40 hours a week for some odd reason...I have paper work on top of paper work on my desk. I sometimes don't get fed at work while others get to eat off the buffet line, and get sick days, paid bonuses, and extras while I'm the one doing their work and I don't get anything or recognition...I told my boss I would like a raise - she just laughs it off and say I wish I can give you one. I over heard a higher postion somewhere else is hiring and I suggested she could give me and the employer heads up but she said you are not going anywhere and laughed it off...What can I do?

Not sure how you are able to work those hours everyday and NOT get 40 hours, unless they deduct 1hour for lunch. As far as having lots of paper work on your desk. Just work thru it one paper at a time and think of it as an on going project that will never end. I believe that by law you are allowed a lunch break if you work 5 hours. Do a search for lunch break laws. As far as them feeding you.....um, that is weird. That might not be one of your work perks, so bring your own .

I guess I'm confused as to the type of workers you are comparing yourself to. If you work in an office and 10 people do the exact same job as yourself and they get the perks, then you need to speak to your boss. If you are a secretary and the higher up people are getting the perks, then......you are going to need to face the fact that you are the underdog.

Sounds like your boss doesn't have much desire to give you a raise or promotion either due to financial problems or personal reasons. I suppose you could look for another job if you aren't happy there.

Best of luck

First you need to take control of your workday. Labor laws protect employees from working without lunches and/or breaks. Employers are required to provide at least 30 minutes for lunch break (away from the work station) after 6 hours. For each 4 hour shift employers are required to provide employees with a 10 minute break from their work station. I am not sure how if you work from 8am-5pm every day plus and additional 3 hours bi-weekly that you don't get paid for at least 40 hours of work. I hope that you have been documenting your hours and keeping your paycheck stubs.
First step you should take is not tell your coworkers, they can't do anything for you. Tell your Human Resources Manager. If action is not taken AND follow up with you I suggest that you contact your States Bureau of Labor. Your employer is out of compliance with several labor laws.

Look deep into yourself and ask yourself a true question, "am I lazy?" If the answer is yes, then quit complaining and get to work, you lazy bum! If the answer is no, then start looking for another job NOW and as soon as you find something your little heart desires, quit this one and go there. Done deal.

you have to ask yourself
"What is this job doing for me?"
Honestly, If you can't name at least three things this job is doing to improve your quality of life then it's time to move on.
Maybe the other co-workers have these benefits because thats what goes along with their particular title.
