Basically it depends where you are living because some areas service is good because of the availability of Fiber Optic (mother of high speed Internet) but some areas its not. The best thing I would do is to go on www.broadbandchecker.co.uk and just key in the post code and it will give all the available Internet service providers (ISPs) in the area including Speed, Price, and any promotional offers available in the area. Choose which one you like and if you would like to know about that specific ISP just go on this website and read the reviews from people who are using that service http://www.reviewcentre.com/products443.html

I'm with TalkTalk and get free calls to numbers whose codes start with 01 or 02 and "free" broadband. It costs £19.99 a month or £1 extra for Talk3 International. The download limit is 40 Gb a month (2 Gb with BT) and you get 15 Mb of webspace - that is a bit miserable - but for the price it's OK. My site has a dozen pages and adsense on it - and hotlinked all over the net. Even the Yahoo bots visit my site! But obviously, there is a waiting list and you do have to plug the stuff in yourself. They don't hold your hand much! But you can call your friends in Australia for free on talk3 International as well as the EU and North America. There is a link to my site on my 360 page. I would give it here - but some witch would click the abuse button. Incidentally BT/Yahoo - do a good package too - pricey - and crap download - but must be worth considering! You do need a BT phone line otherwise you may have to go for DSL with a cable company like blueyonder. They will give you 30 Mb of webspace and faster speeds - until ADSL catches up.

There are loads to avoid. At the end of the day it's what suits you that matters. It also depends on who you have your telephone service with.

If you are with BT you will find that it is probably the best but for my money they are too expensive.

I've been so disappointed by some of the 'established' Internet Service Providers, including AOL, Tiscali, and Wannadoo, so I decided to gamble on a smaller ISP.

I went to Tesco.Net and I've never looked back. I'm delighted with them and what they have to offer. Their back up support is excellent by both telephone, where you speak to people who don't try and blind you with science; and e.mail where I've never had to wait longer then a few hours for a response in plain and simple english. Nothing is too much trouble for them. But what I like the most about them is the price.

Don't take my word for it - check them out for yourself. https://register.tesco.net/online

Either Tiscali or Orange UK. These provide the best service for the smallest price on the market, really! Those two are your best bet!

My friend worked in a Tiscali call centre and told me that there was a lot of custumer abuse like keeping them on the line so it cost them more etc.

Ive been with AOL for 4 years its not the cheapest but it's good.

NTL is famous for its appalling customer care, but I don't think any of them score highly in that department. I've been on NTL (cable) broadband for six months now and it's never gone down, and always stays at maximum speed - unlike any of my experiences with adsl. Cable's just a better technology.

I can tell you one NOT to go with Talk Talk, they screwed us over real good. We're with PIPEX now (the one with the Hoff) Had no trouble with them (yet). That Sky broadband might be worth a look too if you can get it...
