whats it for a punching bag type thing or what? if it gets mites thats kinda irrelavent if you're going to be putting it in sometihng airtight, where they'll die within a few days. just bake it, it will get ALITTLE hard but not anything serious, you can crumble it with your fingers.

Its just sand so baking it in your oven set to its lowest setting, like between 100 and 200 degrees is ok. If you spread it onto a cookie sheet, set the temp and let it sit in there for about an hour, it will totally take care of it. Its sand, not cement, so it wont stick together. And whatever pieces that do, you can just break apart with your DRY hands very easily.

I had the same problem. I bought sand for a sand box and it was wet. I just went ahead and put it in the sand box and within an hour it was almost dry. I kept moving it around and it dried pretty quick. If you don't have alot of time try a hair dryer.

Bake it on a low heat, like 200. That way the silica won't melt, the water will evaporate, and any and all mites will die. I sugegst spreading it out on a cookie sheet.

I remember Alton Brown from Good Eats wanted to sanitize sand to store root vegetables in. He put it in a sheet pan and ran it through his ovens self clean cycle. If that didn't harm the sand, nothing will.

Spread it out. Best way is to spread it out as thin as possible in a warm environment. Use a large plastic drop-cloth or tarp.
