I know a guy who took his wife's last name. He had a terrible relationship with his own father who abandoned him and felt that he could move on by casting that name aside and taking his wife's name. Actually, it worked. I initially thought he was nuts but now I think it was a great idea!

I don't recall hearing of this occuring. I've never asked a guy to take my name. Typically the woman takes the man's name so the children will have his name (a passing down the bloodline thing, for the males).

HA, oddly enough my girlfriend just asked me a few nights ago what I thought about this. Personally, I don't think it really matters. I would only find it odd since I'm used to my own name, but hey women have been changing their names for a long time, so why would it be any different?

The only man I could think of was one in a wedding magazine, The Knot. You should be able to find it online at theknot.com. I remember his new married name was Mr. Reid.

I don't know anyone who has hypenated his name.

I've heard of couples making a new name entirely out of their two existing names, but I don't personally know anyone who has.

I will be taking my fiance's name. I have never discussed anyone taking my name.

Hope this helps! :)

Yes, my nephew took his wife's last name as his biological father did not want anything to do with him; therefore he felt this man did not deserve to have his last name carried on by him, he is very happy and his wife likes it, no hyphens, just forget about the old last name, what is your reason? if you have a nice dad who deserve you to carry on his last name I think you could hyphenate it with your wife's, good luck!

My husband desperately wanted to take my last name, but he and my father have the same first name, so I thought that'd be a wee bit creepy.
