My boss is useless. She says she's done something and we know she hasn't - so she lies. She is constantly making excuses for things she does/has done wrong. We have had two members of staff leave recently because of **** ups she has made with pay and conditions, and she denies things, she blames emails, computers etc. She is driving us all mad, and our line manager isn't interested - she is not a people person. What else can we do. Thought of contacting union,

You could take a vote of confidence amongst you about your boss and take the results to the manager. That will produce results.

if you have a union go to them first. if you dont have a union go higher above keep on persuiing it,hopefully there is a higher boss just keep on going up that food chain. what do you have to lose. If your higher up boss is such a **** up youll lose your job anyway wether she gets rid of you or you quit. Life is to short to stay at a job that is going to piss you off everyday. You probably wont get anywhere if yu go to labour relations unless you can prove abbuse. document everything and see if your co workers will help, your stand will be alot stronger if you have other co workers standing and backing you.

Yes you are sensible to join a union, they will tell you your rights. They charge about £2 a week for membership and are able to offer free legal advise and lots of other benefits such as representation. Most have websites.

Check with the union at least for a consultation, they may advise human resources or something else.

My boss is a jackhole too. Insecure micromanager.

Cover your a** on all dealings with her. Get assignments in writing. If she doesnt provide send a "confirmation email" back to her describing the tasks she has asked you to do. Pretty soon she wil get the message she better be straight with you at least.

If you fight her she will make life difficult for you and block your career. Look elswhere, find a better paid job, maybe even make a promotion out of it, and when you leave, write in your exit interview that you could not stay because of her and give solid examples. You will have a better job and she will be in trouble.

go directly to a higher up. Who is above her? If possible, meet in person with him or her to discuss your bosses actions.
Write down things she does with date/time/witnesses and have them sign it to present to higher ups. The more hard evidence you have the better
You could try a union, but it may take a while

Head down, nose to the grind-stone, do your job better than before, and be seen to be bearing responsibility in your department. Hopefully this will get your line-manager on-side and talking preferrably to you.

What useless idiot gave her the job. Many managers are only as good as the people below them. Come clean with her, tell her you are on to her!

you need to go to the top with proof, you can use your union rep to do this but make sure you have the proof first and also make sure you do not do it alone as one persons word will not be taken unless you have got it on paper what she has done, but tread carefully as you could make things worse for yourself, i know have been there
