Here's the deal. they have a majority in the House, and a slim majority in the Senate. But- the key thing here is not the size of the majority, but that they are the majority. The majority party gets to head EVERY committee, and it's the committee leaders that determine what bills get brough forth to congress for vote, what investigations get done- well, pretty much everything.

Does that make sense now?

Hate to tell you this, but several Republicans got re-elected because they said they would vote with the Democrats to resolve issues...So even with a simple majority, Bush might be inbetween a rock and a hard place.

They have a simple majority, members of either party can jump ship from their parties agenda to side with the opposition. To control congress they would have to have at least 2/3rds of the seats and have 100% party solidarity.

Right you are Ken--Majority=Control. The Dems decide which bills will make the house floor for a vote. They have the majority of members on all committees and the Chairmanships. Republicans have no power--period. Same thing in the Senate.

That's kind of a tough question. They have a simple majority and they "control" Congress if they stick togeather.

A very slim majority that could change easily. They control only what comes to the floor. They do not have the numbers to stop a filibuster.

They control it because the democrates can easily out vote Bush. They can also make a request to have something done and get it passed. Also they can stop what ever Bush wants by just voting.

They have control and a majority.

A simple majority. But it is all anyone should want. It allows for much more bipartisanship than the last 6 years had to offer. Everyone should be happy about that (although republicans apparently hate the idea of bipartisanship).
