Do you think it is fair that a person who has been at his/her job for a long time gets replaced by someone with a college degree? My idea is tht while a degree is good for the job it does not prepare you for the experience of interaction or life experience in that field that the veteran have? answers please

If you are over 40 years of age and have been arbitrarily replaced by a younger employee, then you may have grounds to file an age discrimination charge.

Today too many employers, faced with an aging workforce and pressured by competition in the marketplace are looking to cut costs by replacing the older, more costly employee with a cheaper "rookie". Their rationale seems to be that the older person will eventually require more medical attention, will be absent more often and is not as "fast on their feet" as the younger person.

They fail to realize that substantial experience, product knowledge, customer interaction is going out the door. And while the younger person has "fast feet", they'll use that speed to go to another position with another company. In short, the employer that replaces an older worker with a younger one will have more problems than an EEOC complaint.

No, a college degree can never prepare for that. However, with that said, an old man/woman, with a family, mortgage, and responsibilities, can never again have youth and be able to work for half the price. Its a very difficult situation for them as well. Does that help, or just bring up more questions? LOL
